A meaningful initiative rooted in community engagement and storytelling, Kwentong may Kwenta returned recently—aimed to spark joy, inspire young minds, and foster inclusivity in Far Eastern University (FEU)’s partner barangays.
Originally initiated by the Department of Language and Literature years ago, the project is being revived and reimagined through the collaborative efforts of the National Service Training Program and Community Relations Office, and several partner organizations, including the Office of Student Discipline, and Kapatiran-Kaunlaran Foundation Inc.
‘Kwentong may Kwenta returned last November, and the storytelling sessions resume from January to May 2025. The project is designed to create meaningful connections and provide educational and emotional enrichment to children in nearby barangays, especially those facing economic challenges.
Platform for Change
At its core, Kwentong may Kwenta emphasizes the transformative power of stories. The project aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 10: Reduced Inequalities by giving children from underprivileged communities access to storytelling sessions that encourage learning, imagination, and personal growth. To add a tangible layer of kindness, pre-loved toys collected through the #FEUSBNUTalk project are distributed during the activities, making the initiative both an emotional and practical support system for young recipients.
Strengthening Partnerships
This initiative is a testament to the collaborative partnerships between university offices and external organizations, highlighting its alignment with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. By pooling resources, expertise, and dedication, the stakeholders ensure that the project creates a lasting impact on its beneficiary communities.
Expanding the Reach
In addition to the monthly storytelling sessions, Kwentong may Kwenta paves the way for more engagements with FEU’s partner communities. Beginning in February 2025, National Service Training Program 2 students are going to be deployed weekly to the partner barangays, extending the program’s reach and impact until May 2025.
This deployment is aimed to benefit the communities as it provides FEU students with opportunities to engage in hands-on extension service, fostering empathy and leadership skills.
