Far Eastern University (FEU) was ready for the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) team for a comprehensive institutional assessment. The week-long evaluation focused on FEU’s strategic management, functional systems, and systemic quality assurance.
The opening session last Nov. 25 was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ornsiri Cheunsuang, chief assessor from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. Dr. Cheunsuang provided an overview of the purpose and framework of the assessment. President Juan Miguel Montinola followed with a presentation on the FEU’s significant milestones and its Aspirations 2028, setting the tone for the evaluation.
The session transitioned into breakout meetings and interviews with key offices such as Finance, Quality Assurance, Human Resources, Admissions, and the Institutes. The assessors also conducted site visits to academic facilities, including the library, laboratories, arts studios, and research centers.
Last Nov. 26, the focus shifted to FEU’s International Relations Office, University Research Center, IT Services, and Community Extension Services. The afternoon session featured a site visit showcasing FEU’s sustainability and environmental efforts, led by VP Edward Kilakiga of Facilities and Technical Services.
November 27, day three, divided the assessors into two groups. One group engaged with FEU’s Board of Trustees and toured FEU Makati, where they observed entrepreneurial projects by IABF students. The other group visited the BJMP Female Dormitory with the Community Extension Services (CES) team to interact with Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and witness their skill-building initiatives. The group also met the Mangyan community to learn about their livelihood programs facilitated by FEU.
On the third day, Nov. 28, the assessors met with selected FEU students, alumni, and industry partners. This was followed by a clarificatory meeting led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Kay Chuan of the National University of Singapore. The session, attended by senior academic leaders, aimed to deliberate on preliminary findings and recommendations.
The assessment concluded last Nov. 29 with a comprehensive presentation of findings at the Main Auditorium. The assessors commended FEU for its strong leadership, sustainable financial practices, commitment to diversity and equality, and growing reputation in international rankings. Areas for improvement included the need to enhance digitalization and data management to support the university’s expansion and align with its Aspirations 2028.
President Montinola expressed gratitude to the assessors and reaffirmed FEU’s commitment to continuous improvement. The AUN-QA Institutional Assessment marks another step in the university’s journey toward excellence, ensuring that it remains a leader in quality education and innovation in the Southeast Asian region.
