FEU IARFA, Rise Against Hunger redesign mobile soup kitchen

Updated: Oct 2

Far Eastern University (FEU) has partnered with Rise Against Hunger Philippines (RAHP) to enhance the exterior of the RAHP Jeepney Mobile Soup Kitchen. This collaboration, which marks the first partnership of its kind with a university, is part of a broader effort to support the global movement to end hunger and aligns with FEU’s commitment to community service and social responsibility.

Rise Against Hunger is an international organization dedicated to fighting hunger in communities with high rates of food insecurity. Through volunteer-packaged meals, school and community feeding programs, and other forms of assistance, RAHP supports the nutrition and health of children and families struggling with hunger. By improving the mobile soup kitchen, FEU aims to contribute to this vital campaign, bringing much-needed nutrition and hope to communities in need.

"We are thrilled to partner with Far Eastern University, the first university to collaborate with us on this important initiative," said Jomar Fleras, Executive Director of Rise Against Hunger Philippines. "This partnership not only enhances our mobile soup kitchen but also brings together the creativity and dedication of FEU’s talented students and faculty. Together, we are making a meaningful impact in the fight against hunger, and we hope this collaboration inspires others to join us in our mission to end hunger in our communities."

As part of the collaboration, FEU’s Institute of Architecture and Fine Arts (IARFA) will lead the creative transformation of the jeepney. Under the guidance of the IARFA dean and faculty, students will design, paint, and protect the vehicle throughout the project. The jeepney will be transformed into a moving canvas, showcasing the creativity of FEU’s artists while serving as a functional mobile soup kitchen.

"This partnership with Rise Against Hunger Philippines allows our students to use their creative skills for a meaningful cause," said Isaiah Israel Susi, FEU IARFA dean. "By contributing to the redesign of the RAHP Jeepney Mobile Soup Kitchen, we are not only providing a unique learning experience for our students but also actively supporting a global movement to end hunger. It's an honor for us at IARFA to be a part of this initiative, where art meets advocacy to make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most."

This collaboration highlights the synergy between education and social responsibility, as FEU and RAHP work together to support communities in need while fostering the talents of young artists.
