Representatives from Far Eastern University (FEU) partnered with the local government unit (LGU) of Manila to conduct a large-scale coastal clean-up activity, emphasizing the importance of sustainable environmental practices and community partnerships.
The event, aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 6, 11, 14, and 17, highlighted the interconnectedness of clean water, sanitation, and marine life preservation to good health, well-being, and sustainable urban living. Originating in 1986 as an initiative by the Ocean Conservancy, International Coastal Clean-Up Day serves as a global reminder of the need to protect waterways and oceans from pollution.
This collaboration follows the recent ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between FEU Main and the Manila LGU, symbolizing a shared commitment to environmental stewardship.
Representing the FEU community, a delegation led by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Services, National Service Training Program, and Community Outreach and Extension Services, joins forces with LGU teams to restore and clean a stretch of Manila’s coastal areas. Academic Services
As participants collected plastic waste, discarded fishing gear, and other pollutants, the initiative addressed immediate environmental concerns and inspired community members to embrace a culture of sustainability.
The clean-up concluded with an assessment of collected waste and discussions on how to further engage stakeholders in ongoing environmental efforts. With partnerships like this, the vision of a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future is within reach.
Coastal Clean-Up continues to remind individuals, organizations, and governments worldwide of their role in preserving the planet for generations to come.
